October’s Recommended Reading: Grief is Love

I read a lot of grief books. Some of them are good, and some of them really are not! I remember reading one particular grief book that made me want to throw it across the room! It was painfully bad. When I read "Grief Is Love" by Marisa Renee Lee, I suspected it might be good. But I was blown away! It's great. One of the best books about grief I've read in a long time, and that's why it's October's Recommended Reading.

Marisa Renee Lee writes about her personal grief experiences:  losing her mother to cancer at age 25 and experiencing infertility and a heartbreaking pregnancy loss -- with the additional perspective of being a black woman in America. Her losses are specific and unique to her -- just like your losses are distinct and unique to you. But what's special about this book is the way she's able to distill what's common in our grief experience. She has a beautiful way of making you feel seen as a reader and a griever. The book is full of wise, practical advice and beautiful thoughts, and it feels like it comes wrapped in a hug.

This is a great book to read if you are grieving, but it would also be fantastic if you know someone who is grieving and you'd like to understand their experience better. It would also make a wonderful gift for someone you know who has experienced loss.
