November’s Recommended Reading: Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?

November's Recommended Reading is "Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?: Everyday Tools for Life's Ups and Downs" by Dr. Julie Smith.

I'm not going to lie, I was initially drawn to this book because of its cover. The rainbow spine and accents on the white cover are just so pleasing. About the same time I discovered this book, I discovered Dr. Julie Smith's Instagram account (find her @drjulie), and I loved the quick messages and tools that she shared there. It took me longer than I'd like to admit to connect the book with her Instagram account. It makes so much sense now that I know!

This book is full of tools and strategies to help you navigate and cope with some of the normal difficulties that life throws at us, as well as the emotions that make us human, but we don't always know what to do with them. The book is divided into sections, so you can easily find the area you might need the most help in right away. I really appreciated section 4 of the book, which is on grief. You don't have to read the entire book to get practical and actionable advice, but I know I learned a lot of really helpful ideas by diving into the whole thing.

I think sometimes we want to make changes or cope with things in a different way, but we just don't know how. This book gives friendly and accessible advice that would be easy to incorporate into your life in small, buildable ways. It really is a manual for building resilience, and that's why it's November's recommended reading.
