Ways to Work with Me
As an Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist and a Certified Wellness Coach, I wear a few hats around here. So, I wanted to share some details about the 3 main ways to work with me so that you can see what might be the best fit for you.
Grief Recovery
Grief Recovery is my main focus. I teach the Grief Recovery Method, and am certified through the Grief Recovery Institute as an Advanced Specialist to do so. The Grief Recovery Method is an 8-week program to help people process their grief. Grief can be caused by many things -- death of a loved one, divorce or break up, miscarriage, estrangement, pet loss, moving, and change of many kinds. As we work together over those 8 weeks, clients will focus on and process one loss until they feel complete with it. People who participate in this program feel lighter, more at peace, and more able to move forward with their lives. They gain the tools to process future loss and change that may come their way.
The Grief Recovery Method consists of eight 45-60 minute sessions with me over Zoom. In between each session there are some reading and writing assignments to work on, and these usually take about an hour to complete. This is where the real healing begins. It's what makes the Grief Recovery Method action-based, and that's why it works.
If at the end of the 8 weeks clients have another loss they would like to process with my help, I offer 4-week Alumni sessions. Those sessions are only for those who have completed the 8-week Grief Recovery Method with me.

Helping Children with Loss Course
Helping Children with Loss is a course under the umbrella of Grief Recovery. This is a course for adults. I have been asked many times if I work with kids. The answer is no. But, I do teach this class. It's a 10-hour class over 4 weeks, and you will learn skills and tools to help children and teens navigate loss, change, and grief. It's awesome for helping you get really good at having emotional conversations that can sometimes be difficult.
This class is great for parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, caregivers -- anyone with a child in their life. It's also great on a professional level for teachers, administrators, coaches, youth pastors, etc. Sometimes you are the most trusted person in a child or teen's life. Wouldn't it be great to be prepared when they come to you with emotional pain?

Wellness Coaching
Something I haven't shared much about yet is that I am also a Certified Wellness Coach. I did my training at Cornell University and The Mayo Clinic, and am currently working toward my National Board Certification in Health and Wellness Coaching.
Wellness Coaching is where we take a holistic look at your wellness and help you make a plan to bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be. There are many facets of wellness -- health, sleep, stress management, fitness, nutrition, aging, relationships, hobbies, career, emotional health, environmental factors, etc. So wellness coaching is very individual, and whatever YOU want it to be. I don't set goals for you. I help you narrow down what is truly important to you, and help you eliminate barriers to meeting the goals you set for yourself. I provide support, encouragement, and accountability along the way.
One thing I want to make clear is that with me, wellness coaching is not an opportunity for me to upsell you on vitamins or supplements, diet foods, nutritional plans, or workout regimens. It's just coaching. I do not sell or affiliate with any products.
One caveat to wellness coaching I have is this: If you are actively grieving, I will always always encourage you to do Grief Recovery first. Wellness coaching is a wonderful follow-up to Grief Recovery when you're in that "what next?" stage. However, it is not a substitute for Grief Recovery. While I believe grief is a component of our emotional wellness, wellness coaching is not the place to resolve it. The Grief Recovery Method is evidence-based and proven to help people heal, so for me it's the only way to go. When we tackle the grief first, the other wellness components fall into place much easier.
