March’s Recommended Reading: Out of A Jar

My recommended reading for this month is the beautiful children's book Out of A Jar by Deborah Marcero.

Out of A Jar is the second of her books about a small rabbit named Llewellyn. In her first book about him, titled In A Jar, Llewellyn puts memories in jars so he can experience them again, which helps him cope with his best friend moving away. It's a wonderful book, as well.

In this new book, Llewellyn starts putting his feelings in jars and storing them away when he doesn't know how to deal with them. The book does a great job of showing the consequences Llewellyn goes through as he does this and how he eventually learns this is not good for him. He then learns to recognize his feelings and how to feel, share, and process them.

Out of A Jar is a great book to open up conversations with kids about their feelings -- positive and negative -- and how to handle them. You can't help but love Llewellyn, and the illustrations are fantastic. Highly recommended for children of all ages (including adults!).
